This is a very scary feeling. You have looked everywhere and cannot find your wallet. You back-track you steps and where you have been today, only to come up empty handed. Since you do not know where it is, you must assume that someone has taken it will attempt to use your identity so there are things you need to do now.
You will need to call all your lenders and credit companies so they can close your accounts. Write down the name of the person you speak with and document the call. For debit cards, there is a limit as to how much you are liable for. If you report your missing debit card within two days, $50 is all that you will be liable for of unauthorized charges. If you are missing your check book, tell your bank and ask them to alert the Chex System for any checks that might go through.
You can also call the credit systems to tell them of a fraud alert on your accounts. By doing this you will be able to stop anyone from opening new accounts under your name. Just call one of the three as one will connect to the others and they will all be aware of the situation.
