Bankruptcy is an extreme step to take and should not be viewed as a fast fix. It takes time and one done will definitely effect your credit standing and it will take time before you are offered credit again. But today, more and more people are taking this route out of desperation. There are some things you should consider before making that call to a bankruptcy lawyer.
Have you already tired to consolidate your debt with your creditors? You can also start selling things that you own as a way to generate some cash to put toward all those bills you have created for yourself. You can also try to work more hours to pay for that life style that you have that you evidently can’t afford. Maybe try asking you boss for a raise because what is the worst that can happen, he can say no.
As a final resort you can write a letter to everyone you own money to and tell them your position and ask if they can help you in any way. Tell them you are considering bankruptcy, that will give them an idea of how serious you are. Most creditors would rather you not file so they might think about making a deal with you to make smaller payments.
